The project “Clinton’s Bench”, dedicated to themes of historical memory, repression, democracy, and exile, has come to an end at Mochnarte.
As part of the project, artists Uladzimir Hramovich, Nadya Sayapina, and Aliaxander Adamau presented their works and research. The final presentation also included a historical lecture by Wojciech Konończuk and the audio performance “ROZSTRZELANI ELEKTRO” by Zhenia Davidenka and Stas Chakhouski.

The project is rooted in the history of political repression in Belarus and the ongoing struggle to preserve historical memory. It takes as its starting point the memorial installed by U.S. President Bill Clinton in Kurapaty in 1994 to commemorate the victims of Soviet political terror. After the monument was destroyed, only a concrete block remained, becoming a symbol of erased memory and the continuing suppression of remembrance.
Developed near the Belarusian border, Clinton's Bench reflects on the fragility of memorial forms, the destruction of historical sites, and the ways memory can survive through artistic practice, collective participation, and acts of witnessing.
