Katarzyna Sienkiewicz
"Ruchniki" – Experimental Residency.
The project is dedicated to exploring the boundary between brush lettering and calligraphy.
The goal of the residency is to refine a personal handwritten font based on the artist’s earlier computer-generated typeface, which has the potential to decorate fabrics using the "perabory" technique.
Katarzyna Sienkiewicz planned to transcribe her poems in Cyrillic, in Belarusian, on narrow, elongated strips of paper, which would be connected and arranged in the form of Belarusian ritual towels (ruchniki). The poems—both old and new—are transcribed into a structured visual template. This template divides the lines into three columns, preserving the symbolic representation of sides that is deeply rooted in Belarusian culture.
Yellowed, elongated paper, along with red and black ink, will transform into "written" towels. The project, created during the residency, will also serve as the foundation for an engaging, innovative, intermedia exhibition of poetic paper ruchniki.

Katarzyna Sienkiewicz – born in Hajnówka, a representative of the Belarusian national minority in Poland, an artist and poet who writes in Belarusian and Polish. A graduate of textile art at the Artur Grottger High School of Fine Arts in Supraśl (2011), she defended her diploma in painting at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (2017). She mainly deals with painting and works on preserving the polychromy of walls. Currently lives and works in Lublin.
Kasia is engaged in the development and promotion of Belarusian culture through artistic means, which in painting has so far been expressed primarily through the intermediate imitation of folk textiles.
