SPIEVY

SPIEVY is a women’s choir of emigrants from Belarus and Ukraine, performing traditional Belarusian songs as well as folk songs from the borderlands of Slavic regions (Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania).

The choir’s repertoire consists of traditional Belarusian songs historically performed by women during pagan rituals and ceremonies. These songs use simple yet profound words to convey symbolic frameworks of human interaction with nature and others. They also mark significant life milestones and transitions, such as separation from one’s mother, the journey from maidenhood to marriage, childbirth, funerals, and more.

Among the members of the group there are two artists visiting previously Mochnarte: Nadya Sayapina and Karalina Poliakova. Therefore, once we were asked to provide the space for their music clip we could not resist. A group of eight female singers and five members of film crew came to Mochnarte in order to make a musical clip. Starting at 4 am in the rine of rising sun the team worked for almost 24 hours, finishing in torrents of rain after midnight.

The film crew worked under direction of Natalia Strzelczyk.
Great appreciation to production manager Vitalina Nosava for smooth operating process.

The choir began gathering under the Świętokrzyski Bridge in Warsaw in the spring of 2023. What started as a group of friends gradually transformed into an ensemble honing their skills under the guidance of Rusya.
